Last author reading at McNally Robinson

Margaret Wente's appearance at the McNally Robinson store in Don Mills on December 3 was probably the last such function at the store before it declared bankruptcy and closed. She was interviewed by writer David Hayes and promoted her last book You Can't Say that in Canada.

The Globe and Mail said these author functions usually only attracted six to 10 people but Wente drew a lot more. Unfortunately, not enough to save the store.

"Age of Persuasion" book launch

Not quite MadMen of TV fame but the Age of Persuasion is a CBC Radio show created by Terry O'Reilly and Mike Tennant. They have now published a book.

The launch took place at Ben McNally's bookstore on Toronto's Bay Street.

Authors! Authors! Authors!

One of my favourite assignments is shooting book launches. They are always a happy occasion. Here are some images from recent signings and a few candids of writers. (Mouse over the photos for captions.)

Going fishing? Take me along!

This was in Barbados in March 2009. A great day and lots of fish. They are wahoos, except for the young guy's catch that was a barracuda.

For the second year in a row, I got to shoot the annual get-together of the Ontario MR2 Club. It was a gathering hosted by a club of owners of Toyota MR2s but other cars also took part, including a Ferrari and a sleek Arial Atom racing car. The event is now in in its seventh year.

The Toyota MR2 is a two-seat, mid-engined rear wheel drive sports car produced by Toyota from 1984 until July 2007.

It has a large number of enthusiasts and the Ontario club is one of many such clubs. People come from across Ontario and from the United States come to this meet. This year's turnout was great and the weather held off for most of the day. The second day was held at Picton, Ontario. (See post below)
